Daddy's Best Friend - London Hale Review

This is currently free on amazon UK for kindle!

“She’s temptation personified
Nathan’s always been more than just my dad’s friend. I never thought he'd see me as an adult, especially not after avoiding me for so long. But one hug, one moment feeling every inch of him against me, shatters that illusion. Consequences no longer matter—I’m eighteen, and I’m willing to risk everything for my shot with him.

He’s not going to resist anymore
I never should’ve seen Eve as more than my best friend’s daughter. As a cop, I know it’s wrong. It’s my job to protect her from guys like me. Chasing her could cost me my career—not to mention the only family I've ever known—but I can’t hold back another second. One taste, and I want her. To hell with the fallout.”

I’ve never read a forbidden romance and as far as this goes for being my first, I really enjoyed it. BUT my only issue was that it was a novella and it just wasn’t long enough! This is written by London Hale who is a duet comprised of Ellis Leigh and Brighton Walsh who I've not read anything by so I wasn't sure what  to expect from this. Daddy's Best Friend involves Nathan, who is a Police Officer and best friends with Brandon who is Eve’s dad and have known each other forever. Eve has been having dirty thoughts about Nathan for a while and always thought they were one-sided until a meeting at her Graduation BBQ changes things.

I would have loved to see a full-length story with Eve and Nathan because a lot of the problems I had with this is that time was skipped over and things just went a bit too fast which is a problem that would have been solved by it being a full-length book. The other thing that I didn’t like was the relationship her best friend, Genesis developed through Eve’s story. It was so predictable and even though it was just a side plot and obviously setting up for the second novella to follow on from, I just felt it made Eve and Nathan’s relationship seem less believable because who has that many forbidden or taboo relationships in such a close group?!

The sex scenes in this were pretty steamy especially the first one they have and obviously proves that older men clearly know what they’re doing. Despite this, the book wasn’t all sex and smut and I also really enjoyed the story behind this too.

Despite being a taboo subject I felt it was done well and you could obviously tell that there was chemistry there. I would have liked to see the relationship develop a bit further before she moves in with him. And I would have also loved to have seen more development between Nathan and Eve’s Dad Brandon as I felt how he found out about them was a bit rushed but again, this is just because it’s a novella! Argh it has just reconfirmed that I don’t enjoy novella’s because they’re just so short and I probably shouldn’t read them ☹

Overall I actually really enjoyed this and, as you can probably tell, my main issue was that it was just so short ☹ Remove the relationship that Genesis develops in this story too and it would have been a really really good story!
